All-Time Leading Texas Stallion Valid Expectations Dies at 22

Valid Expectations, a Florida-bred son of Valid Appeal who was leading freshman sire in North America by money won and winners and went on to become the all-time leading sire in Texas, has died at the age of 22, according to a report in AmericanRacehorse.com.

Bred by the late Harry T. Mangurian Jr., Valid Expectations (produced from the Iron Constitution mare Mepache) was campaigned by Ackerley Brothers Farm, which purchased Valid Expectations for $225,000 at the OBS February Sale of 2-year-olds in training. He was trained by Steve Asmussen.

Winner of 12-of-27 races, including two Grade 3 events, the Derby Trial Stakes and Sport Page Handicap, Valid Expectations stood his first two years in Florida, then moved to William S. Farishs Huisache Farm (later Lanes End Texas). He was owned by a partnership consisting of Lanes End, Leland and Robert Ackerley, Joe Archer, Greg Goodman, and Robert and Janice McNair.

After leading the Texas sire list nearly every year throughout his career, Valid Expectations was pensioned in 2013. His progeny earned in excess of $33.1 million and included Group 1 Golden Shaheen winner Saratoga County and Ivan Fallunovalot, a possible starter in this years G1 Breeders Cup Sprint

Nominations Close Saturday, Oct. 24 for the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot

13TH RUNNING OF AMERICAS SECOND RICHEST RACE FOR 2-YEAR-OLDS

CARRIES $600,000 FIRST PLACE PRIZE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21

VINTON, LA. Nominations to this years $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot close on Saturday, October 24. The race offers a $600,000 first place prize as well as qualifying points in the Road to the Kentucky Derby series.

There were 282 horses nominated to the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot last year including Ocho Ocho Ocho, who won the race under Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith. This years race is once again expected to attract another high number of nominations from horsemen all around the country.

Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel will host the 13th running of the grade III race for 2-year-olds competing at 1-1/16 miles over a dirt surface on Saturday, November 21, along with seven other stakes races. The entire program will feature more than $2.3 million in total purse money. There will be a special first race post time on Jackpot Day of 1:15 pm CT.

The $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot has launched the careers for several top horses. The richest Jackpot alumni is 2012 winner Goldencents, who tallied over $3 million in career earnings including three grade I wins before his retirement last year. The 2008 Jackpot winner, Big Drama, went on to take the Breeders Cup Sprint in 2010 and earned over $2.7 million during his time on the racetrack.

The race has also been a proven path to the Kentucky Derby. Last years $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot produced three starters for this years showdown at Churchill Downs in May. There have been six Kentucky Derby starters come out of the Jackpot in the past three years and since its inception the race has seen 12 of its participants make it to the big dance in Louisville.

This year the Road to the Kentucky Derby series will include 35 stakes leading up to the big race at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7. The top four finishers in this years $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot will be awarded points on a 10-4-2-1 scale toward a possible starting position in the first leg of the 2016 Triple Crown.
