STALL APPLICATIONS FOR 2023 EVANGELINE DOWNS THOROUGHBRED SEASON DUE BY FEBRUARY 14

THE 84-DAY SEASON BEGINS ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5

 

 

OPELOUSAS, LA –The 2023 Thoroughbred season at Evangeline Downs will kick off on Wednesday, April 5.  The race meet will feature 84 days of racing, running on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule and concludes on August 26.  First post is scheduled for 5:30pm Central time.

Stall applications for horsemen are due by Tuesday, February 14.  Horsemen interested in an application can visit the track website at www.evdracing.com and click on the Horsemen’s Info tab.  The racing office can be contacted directly at 337-594-3000.

The 2023 stakes schedule begins on April 14 with the running of the Acadiana Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.  The following night will feature the Lafayette Stakes for 3-year-olds.  Both races are contested over the distance of six furlongs and have a purse of $60,000.  May features a couple of stakes during the week of the Kentucky Derby.  The EVD Distaff, for 4-year-old and up fillies and mares, will take place on Friday, May 5, with the EVD Classic on Saturday, May 6.  Both races will be run over the distance of one mile and each offers a purse of $60,000.

The highlight of each race meet at Evangeline Downs is Louisiana Legends Night.  Taking place on Saturday, June 3, the card will include six stake races for Louisiana-bred runners.  Each stake race will have a purse of $75,000.  Fan favorites Net a Bear and Free Like a Girl were among the winners last year.

A couple of turf stakes on the schedule are the Opelousas Stakes on Friday, June 30 and the John Henry Stakes on Saturday, July 1.  The Opelousas, for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares, and the John Henry, for 3-year-olds and up, will each have a purse of $60,000.

The final month of the racing calendar will have a couple of stakes weekends.  The Friday, August 4 card will include the $60,000 Spotted Horse, a stake for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares.  The $75,000 Evangeline Mile, for 3-year-olds and up, will be contested Saturday, August 5.  Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds will take center stage on closing weekend with the D.S “Shine” Young Futurities.  The filly division will be run on Friday, August 25, with the colts and geldings division on the final night of the meet, August 26, each with a purse of $60,000.  All of the stake races on the calendar will run for a guaranteed purse.

The upcoming meet is scheduled to run from October 13 through March 5. First post time each Wednesday and Thursday during the season will be at 12:55pm and the opener on Fridays and Saturdays will be at 5:55 pm.

2018 THOROUGHBRED SEASON WILL BEGIN ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4

 

OPELOUSAS, LA – The 2018 Thoroughbred season at Evangeline Downs will feature 84 days of live racing and will begin on Wednesday, April 4 continuing through Saturday, August 25. Racing will be conducted on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule with post time for the 2018 season set at 5:40 pm Central Time.

 

Stall applications are due by Friday, February 16, 2018. Horsemen may obtain an application by visiting the websitewww.evdracing.com and clicking on the “Horsemen’s Info” tab on the home page. Horsemen may also contact the Evangeline Downs racing office by calling 337-594-3000.

 

The stakes schedule at Evangeline Downs will consist of 20 stakes races with purses totaling $1,375,000. Among the highlights on the stakes schedule are Louisiana Legends Night on Saturday, May 26, with eight Louisiana-bred stakes offering purses of $600,000, and the $100,000 Evangeline Mile for 3-year-olds and up at one mile on the main track on Saturday, June 23.

 

Louisiana Legends Night, which celebrates the Louisiana-bred Thoroughbred, features the $100,000 Classic for 3-year-olds and up at 1-1/16 miles on the main track. There are six $75,000 races on Legends Night: the Distaff for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up at 1-1/16 miles on the main track, the Sprint for 3-year-olds and up at 5 ½ furlongs on the main track, the Mademoiselle for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up at 5 ½ furlongs on the main track, the Turf for 3-year-olds and up at 1-1/16 miles on the turf, the Cheval for 3-year-olds at one mile on the main track, and the Soiree for 3-year-old fillies at one mile on the main track. The $50,000 Starter will also take place on Legends Night for 3-year-olds and up at one mile on the turf.

 

The Evangeline Mile program on Saturday, June 23 will also feature the $50,000 Lafayette Stakes for 3-year-old Louisiana-breds at seven furlongs on the main track.

 

The full 2018 stakes schedule is still pending official approval from the Louisiana Racing Commission.

 OPELOUSAS, LA – Evangeline Downs’ 2017 Thoroughbred racing season will begin on Wednesday, April 12 and continue through Saturday, September 2. There will be 84 days of live racing run on a Wednesdaythrough Saturday weekly schedule during the season.

All horsemen interested in submitting a stall application to Evangeline Downs must do so by Friday, February 24. The highlight events on the Evangeline Downs Thoroughbred racing schedule include the $100,000 Evangeline Mile for 3-year-olds and up at one mile on the main track on Saturday, June 3 and Louisiana Legends Night on Saturday, July 8, which will feature eight Louisiana-bred stakes races with purses totaling $750,000

The Evangeline Mile program will also include two other stakes races: the $50,000 Need For Speed Stakes for 3-year-olds and up at five furlongs on turf and the $50,000 Lafayette Stakes for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds at seven furlongs on the main track.
