Raffle to benefit United Horse Coalition

(Washington, DC) – The American Horse Council Foundation (AHCF) is delighted to host a raffle fundraiser to benefit the United Horse Coalition and its efforts to provide resources to horse owners in need of assistance with maintaining and ensuring the health and wellbeing of their horses.

The United Horse Coalition is a broad alliance of equine organizations that have joined together under the American Horse Council to educate the horse industry about the issues facing horses At-Risk, or in transition. UHC seeks to provide information for existing and prospective owners, breeders, sellers, and horse organizations regarding the long-term responsibilities of owning and caring for horses, as well as focusing on the opportunities available for these horses.

“Our biggest impact in creating change for at-risk horses starts at the source, and that’s through teaching horse owners how to be responsible for the horses in their care.  UHC strives to give owners the resources and tools they need to make responsible decisions on behalf of their horse.” Says UHC Director Ashley Harkins.

AHC & AHCF President Julie Broadway stated “Our goal is to raise $10,000 to provide support to the UHC Resource Database which offers horse owners in need access to essentials like hay banks, feed coupons, vet care, gelding clinics, and other support. “

AHCF Announces Results of 2017 Economic Impact Study

(Washington, DC)- The American Horse Council Foundation (AHCF) is pleased to announce the results of its anticipated 2017 Economic Impact Study of the U.S. Horse Industry. The AHCF would like to thank The Innovation Group for their work on this important study.

 

The equine industry in the U.S. generates approximately $122 billion in total economic impact, an increase from $102 billion in the 2005 Economic Impact Study. The industry also provides a total employment impact of 1.74 million, and generates $79 billion in total salaries, wages, and benefits. The current number of horses in the United States stands at 7.2 million. Texas, California, and Florida continue to be the top three states with the highest population of horses.

 

“Those involved in the equine industry already know how important it is to the U.S. economy. Having these updated numbers is critical not only to the AHC’s efforts up on Capitol Hill, but also for the industry to demonstrate to the general public how much of a role the equine has in American households,” said AHC President Julie Broadway. “While the number of horses in the US has decreased, this was not entirely unexpected due to the decline in breed registration trends over the last few years.”

 

Another bright spot for the industry: 38 million, or 30.5%, of U.S. households contain a horse enthusiast, and 38% of participants are under the age of 18. Additionally, approximately 80 million acres of land is reserved for horse-related activities.

 

“For this update of the study we wanted to get a better picture of the number of youth in the pipeline, which is a number that we have not previously included in our economic impact studies. Additionally, being able to put a number of the amount of land use for equine-related activities is essential to ensuring that we are able to continue to protect and preserve that land for its intended use,” said Ms. Broadway.

AHCF Economic Impact Study results to be announced at Reception with Congressional Horse Caucus

(Washington, DC)- The American Horse Council Foundation (AHCF) is pleased to announce that the results of its 2017 Economic Impact Study will be announced on February 28th at a reception with the Congressional Horse Caucus on Capitol Hill.

“We know that the industry has been eagerly awaiting the results of this study,” said AHC President Julie Broadway. “We are pleased to be able to hold this event with the Congressional Horse Caucus to continue to demonstrate to members of Congress how important our industry is to the United States economy.”

The reception will be held at Top of the Hill, One Constitution Avenue, NE, in Washington, DC, from 2:30 – 4:00 pm, and will feature two special guests: Congressional Horse Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) and Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY). Members of the equine community are encouraged to attend the reception as well.

“I look forward to attending the announcement of the American Horse Council’s 2017 Economic Impact Study.  As the Representative of the Horse Capital of the World and as Co-Chairman of the Congressional Horse Caucus, I hope that this event will help demonstrate the economic benefits the equine industry has across our country,” said Congressman Andy Barr of Kentucky.

The full report of the National Economic Impact Study will be available for purchase on the AHC’s website starting on March 1st for $80 plus S/H. Additionally, a smaller booklet entitled “The Power of the Horse,” will also be available for purchase on the AHC site for $40 plus S/H. The AHC anticipates the 15 state breakouts to be available by the end of March.
