They came by car. They came by truck. They came by helicopter….yes helicopter.
On Thursday evening, September 4, Dex Comardelle hosted “Horses and Heroes” at his farm, Blue Star Racing, in Scott, Louisiana. The purpose of the event was two-fold; to raise awareness of the Louisiana Thoroughbred industry as well as to raise money for local first responders.
“Horses and Heroes was created in partnership with multiple equine related organizations across the state of Louisiana to generate awareness of the $2 billion dollar economic impact the Horse Industry has for the state each year; all while raising funds for local first responders to purchase lifesaving equipment, enabling them to better serve the communities in which they operate.”
The event was a big success on both counts. With approximately 275 guests in attendance even in the sweltering heat, “Horses and Heroes” raised close to $6,000 for the first responders.
Food and beverage provided by local Louisiana restaurants and mixologists were featured, and the the music of Ryan Foret and The Foret Tradition drew many dancers to the floor. Additionally, there was a $5,000 Reverse Drawing, as well as a stallion season raffle.
Event sponsors included Zealous Energy, Oilfield Logistic Services, Courier Labs, B-Line Equine, Big V Feeds, Boehringer Ingelheim, Intak Rental and Supply, Evers and Sons, Encore Group, G.O.L. , Turnbow Trailers, Laris Insurance Agency, Adkins Spice Company, Frias Winery, Louisiana Thoroughbred BreederAssociation, Blue Star Racing, and Equine Sales Co.
