Late Stallion Givemeaminit Sires First Stakes Winner

The filly is a member of her sire’s solitary crop.

Late sire and Louisiana champion 3-year-old male Givemeaminit sired his first stakes winner when his daughter Platinum Minit  captured the $125,000 Crescent City Oaks for state-bred sophomore fillies at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots March 23.

Plantinum Minit is from her sire’s first and only foal crop of just three registered foals. Givemeaminit, a grade 1-placed son of Star Guitar  , succumbed to EPM (equine protozoal myeloencephalitis) during his first season at stud. He stood at his breeder’s farm, Clear Creek Stud, in Louisiana, before his death in 2020.

Platinum Minit’s first black-type score was not without its share of drama. The 3-year-old Dallas Stewart trainee dueled stride for stride to the wire with Clearly a Test , only to be beaten a neck by that rival. She was inevitably declared the winner when stewards ruled she was hampered by Clearly a Test, who failed to keep a straight course the length of the stretch and repeatedly bore into Platinum Minit.

Biden Signs Omnibus Bill With HISA Language Into Law

The sweeping bill contains clarifying language that gives more authority to the FTC.

 

As expected following passage from the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, President Joe Biden on Dec. 29 signed into law a $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill that among its many items contained legal clarifying language related to the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority and the act that authorized it. Additionally, the bill, known as H.R. 2617, the “Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023,” calls for consolidated appropriations for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2023, and provides emergency defense assistance to Ukraine.

HISA was created to implement national, uniform rules in Thoroughbred racing. The first of HISA’s two programs, the Racetrack Safety Program, had already gone into effect in July of this year. It was HISA’s second program, the Anti-Doping and Medication Control Program, that was placed on hold. The ADMC program was originally slated to go into effect Jan. 1, 2023, but its implementation, even with the passage of H.R. 2617, remains delayed.

Brinkman’s Cilla Raises the Bar for Louisiana-Breds

Cilla thrust Louisana-breds into the spotlight with her gritty upset victory in the Sept. 4 Prioress Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course. The daughter of California Chrome  hails from Brett Brinkman’s farm in Cajun country, Louisiana, where Brinkman bred, raised, and broke the filly that would provide him with one of the biggest thrills of his career.

Brinkman, the co-owner, co-breeder, and trainer of Cilla who operates Le Mesa Stallions in Carencro, La., spoke with BloodHorse MarketWatch about his early beginnings in the industry, acquiring Cilla’s dam, the successful race mare Sittin At the Bar, and why he believes the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association program offers breeders significant value on the racetrack.
