A yearling filly from the first crop of Gormley was purchased by J. Stevens Bloodstock for $70,000 to top the Aug. 20 Equine Sales Company’s Consignor Select Yearling and 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. The auction was co-sponsored by the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
Bred in Louisiana by Ken Clark, the sale topper was offered as Hip 68 by KP Sales, agent for the breeder. The Jan. 31, 2019, foal is out of the unraced Afleet Alex mare Homestake, a half sister to Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) runner-up Broken Spell. Second dam, the stakes-winning Exploit mare Rich Find, is a half sister to stakes winner Away, the dam of grade 2 winner Eight Belles, and stakes-placed Escape Route and All Hands.
Equine Sales reported 133 horses sold for gross receipts of $1,515,900, an average price of $11,398 and a $6,000 median. The 34 that went unsold represented an RNA rate of 20.4%.
The figures are almost identical to the 2019 sale in which 133 head grossed $1,518,500, with an $11,417 average and $6,000 median. The RNA rate was 20.4% with 34 unsold.
With the Two-Year-Old sales somewhat delayed due to the pandemic in full swing, it is obvious that there is still the demand for good horses. Today at the Ocala Breeders Sales Company sale, Dennis O’Neill paid $185,000 for a colt by Half Ours who had recorded the fastest quarter of a mile of any horse at the sale when he got the distance in 20:1. O’Neill typically buys horses that are trained by his brother, Doug O’Neill, who has trained two Kentucky Derby winners in I’ll Have Another and Nyquist. Consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Inc., Agent IV, the colt was bred in Louisiana out of the winning Into Mischief dam, All About Ju Ju, by the Summer Hill Equine of William Andrade.
Clear Creek Stud and others will be offering yearlings by Half Ours at the upcoming Equine Sales Company Consignor Select Yearling Sale scheduled for August 20th in Opelousas, Louisiana, and the Texas Thoroughbred Summer Yearling Sale scheduled for August 24th at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, Texas.
2020 Consignor Select Yearling Sale Date has been changed
New Date is Thursday, August 20, 2020
The Board of Directors of Equine Sales Company voted in favor of changing the date of our 2020 Consignor Select Yearling Sale including Two Year Old in Training from September 3, 2020 to August 20, 2020.
With the announcement of Fasig-Tipton consolidating their three yearling sales which will be held on September 9th and 10th in Lexington, KY and the Kentucky Oaks and Derby scheduled for September 4th & 5th, 2020, the board decided the previous sale date would need to be changed. By getting ahead of these events, the new date of Equine Sales’ yearling and 2 year old sale will enable more buyers to attend the sale avoiding the congested sale and event calendar in early September.
Also the Consignor Select Yearling sale will now be the first yearling sale of the year and the Board of Directors feel that this will allow breeders and consignors the best opportunity for their offerings.
