Acadiana Equine @ Copper Crowne Reduces 2021 Fees

Stallion manager, David Tillson, released 2021 fees for Astrology, Court Vision and Gemologist today, all stallions stand at Acadiana Equine @ Copper Crowne. “For obvious reasons we want to provide Louisiana breeders some relief and give them a better opportunity for profitability in the future,” explained Tillson.

Standing three of the top six sires in Louisiana offers proven commodities to breeders and with the new ability for out of state mares to join the lucrative Louisiana Bred program.

Gemologist, the leading Louisiana stallion in 2019 and 2020, will stand for $4,000, the son of pensioned Tiznow appears to be the heir as the closest link to the Man o’ War line.

Champion two-year-old colt of 2019, Storm the Court is by Court Vision, the first stallion Acadiana Equine placed @ Copper Crowne. The son of Gulch will stand for $2,500 in 2021 and currently ranks second in the state by 2020 earnings.

Astrology at $2,500, offers breeders an accomplished young son of A.P. Indy with tremendous value.

FAIR GROUNDS TO OPEN 2020 – 2021 RACE SEASON WITHOUT SPECTATORS

NEW ORLEANS, LA., (November 17, 2020) – The Fair Grounds Race Course announced today that it will not open its 2020 – 2021 race season on Thanksgiving Day to the general public. The course anticipates making a subsequent announcement in December as to when the general public will be allowed to attend.

Said President Doug Shipley, “We are happy to be able to present the Fair Grounds’ 149th racing season, featuring over $7 million in stakes, and continue this longstanding New Orleans tradition despite these unprecedented times. Out of an abundance of caution given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and working with State and Local authorities, we will not be opening the season to the general public at this time, with only licensed horsemen and essential personnel allowed to attend. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and hope to make an announcement soon as to when we will be able to share our racing experience with the general public.”

The Fair Grounds’ slots and twelve off-track betting facilities will maintain their normal hours of operations and safety protocols.

About Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots

Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, one of the nation’s oldest racetracks, has been in operation since 1872. Located in New Orleans, LA, Fair Grounds is owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated (NASDAQ Global Select Market: CHDN); it also operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 12 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana. The 149th Thoroughbred Racing Season – highlighted by the 108th running of the Louisiana Derby – will run from November 26, 2020 through March 28, 2021. Fair Grounds Replaces “Jackpot” Black Gold Five with Traditional Pick Fives

Key alteration also made to multi-race wagering rule

New Orleans (November 13, 2020) – When Fair Grounds’ 149th season of racing kicks off Thanksgiving Day, a traditional early and late Pick Five will replace the Black Gold Five, a jackpot wager that had been in place for the past several years.

On a regular basis, the early Pick Five will encompass races 1-5, and the late Pick Five will be offered on the final five races of the card. The 50-cent minimum wager will pay 100% of the day’s pool plus any carryover coming into the day to those who correctly select 5-of-5 winners. Should no one pick 5-of-5, 25% of the pool will be paid to those who select the most winners, with the remaining 75% of the pool carrying over to the following day’s late Pick Five sequence.

In addition to the newly implemented early and late Pick Five, Fair Grounds will also offer an early Pick Four, which will now move to races 2-5, as well as two other Pick Fours later on the card. Rolling Pick Threes and daily doubles remain a staple of the wagering menu.

Fair Grounds will also make a key change to their horizontal wagering platform. Beginning this meet, any race that is taken off the turf after a sequence has started will revert to ALL on any live tickets. This rule only applies to turf races moved to the main track. Any scratch in a race that did not switch surfaces will result in the bettor getting a replacement of the post time favorite.

A complete list of wagering information, special wagers, and with key racing dates for the meet can be found here.

More than 125 head consigned to Texas Winter Mixed Sale

The first standalone Texas Winter Mixed Sale in nearly a decade has attracted more than 125 consignments. The auction, held jointly by the Texas Thoroughbred Association and Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, will be held on Sunday, December 6, at 1 p.m. Central at the Texas Thoroughbred Sale Pavilion on the backside of the Dallas-area track.

Although there have been mixed sessions as part of the Texas Summer Yearling Sale in recent years, this will mark the first Texas Winter Mixed Sale since 2011.

“Because of increased purses and breeding incentives in Texas, and the overall strength of racing in the Southwest region, we saw the need to bring this sale back,” said Tim Boyce, sales director. “Even though we knew there would be demand from consignors and buyers, we didn’t anticipate this many entries or the interest we’ve already seen from potential buyers. That’s a good sign for how things are growing in this region.”

The sale will kick off with broodmares followed by weanlings, yearlings and horses of racing age.

The Texas Summer Yearling Sale in August was the first Texas sale with live online bidding, and that option will again be available for this sale along with online video.

Coteau Grove Goes To $500K for Contributing at KEENOV

Continuing with their high level of activity at the Keeneland November Sale, Louisiana-based Coteau Grove Farms went to $500,000 to acquire hip 958, the 6-year-old Contributing (Medaglia d’Oro–Taegu, by Halo) from the Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales consignment. Cary Bloodstock’s Andrew Cary signed the winning ticket on behalf of Coteau Grove’s Keith and Ginger Myers. Campaigned by Heider Family Stable, Contributing won four of 15 career starts, including the 2019 Pan Zareta S. while under the care of Brad Cox, and bankrolled $150,225. She was bought back on a bid of $260,000 at last year’s November sale and was put in foal to Speightstown for her first cover. Contributing is a half-sister to Grade II-winning juvenile filly Classic Elegance (Carson City) and to El Fasto (El Prado {Ire}), the dam of GI Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can (Proud Citizen). The resulting foal will be bred on the same cross responsible for Grade I winners Rock Fall and Competitionofideas and Grade III winner Strike Power. Coteau Grove has acquired nine head for gross receipts of $2.88 million at Keeneland November thus far.
