The first standalone Texas Winter Mixed Sale in nearly a decade was held Dec. 6 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, topped by a weanling son of Bradester.
TTA reported 50 horses sold for gross receipts of $223,000, an average price of $4,460 and a $2,600 median. There were 67 horses that went through the ring not sold.
Top price of $16,000 was paid by Highlander Training Center for the Bradester colt (Hip 78) from the Benchmark Training Center consignment. Bred in Texas by Haynes Stables, the colt is out of the winning Street Boss mare Blasted Boss. The colt’s third dam, grade 1-placed Shooting Party, produced millionaire Breaking Lucky (by Lookin At Lucky) a grade 3 winner in Canada who finished second in the 2016 Clark Handicap (G1).
The LTBA would like to remind breeders of several important deadlines coming up before the end of the year.

Kendrick Carmouche celebrates his first Grade 1 victory aboard Cigar Mile winner True Timber
Calumet Farm’s True Timber earned black type in the Grade 1, $250,000 Cigar Mile in each of the last two years. After a runner-up effort in 2018 and a third-place finish in 2019, the son of Mineshaft finally broke through on Saturday, taking command out of the turn and powering home a 5 1/2-length winner to capture the 32nd edition at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y.
A storm-drenched day made for a sloppy and sealed main track, but the conditions did not faze True Timber, who broke sharp from post 5 under Aqueduct fall meet-leading rider Kendrick Carmouche and tracked in third position as New York-bred Mr. Buff led the six-horse field through the opening quarter-mile in 22.89 seconds and the half in 45.82.
Heading into the stretch, Carmouche set True Timber down, easily holding off late bids from runner-up and 13-1 longshot Snapper Sinclair and 4-5 favorite Performer to hit the wire in 1:36.49.

Saints N Muskets wins the 2020 Lookout Stakes at Delta Downs. Coady Photography.
VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted a nine-race Thanksgiving Eve program on Wednesday afternoon and jockey Joe Stokes feasted on stakes racing for the second day in a row. During Tuesday’s opening day card Stokes rode Speaktomeoflove to an exciting win in the $60,000 B Connected and on Wednesday he booted home Rodney J. Verret’s Saints N Muskets to a nice score in the featured $60,000 Lookout.
The Lookout featured a full field of 10 Louisiana-bred fillies and mares competing at seven furlongs. At the break it was Tenpins Tempo who took the lead from the rail and set a slow early pace of 24.76 seconds for the opening quarter mile before Schiff’s Corner stuck a head in front at the half-mile pole in a time of 49.32. When the field entered the upper stretch the Allen Landry-trained Saints N Muskets emerged from mid-pack to take the lead after going three-quarters of a mile in 1:15.18.
After Saints N Muskets straightened away turning for home she took off like a shot and drew clear to hit the finish line 3-3/4 lengths in front of Quikfast N Ahurry who was second. Schiff’s Corner held on for third, another length behind the runner-up. Saints N Muskets covered the distance over a wet fast track in time of 1:28.50
The win by Saints N Muskets was the fourth of her 15-race career and her first in stakes company. She earned $36,000 for the score and now owns a bankroll of $136,365.
Bred in Louisiana by J. E. Jumonville, Jr. & Bunny Jumonville, Saints N Muskets is a 5-year-old bay mare by Musket Man, out of the Vindication mare Laughing Saint.
Sent to the gate at odds of 7-1, Saints N Muskets paid $17.40 to win, $6.20 to place and $4.60 to show. Quikfast N Ahurry returned $6.80 to place and $5.20 to show. Schiff’s Corner was worth $10.80 to show.

The wagering favorite in the B Connected Stakes was Scarlettsblackjack, who left the gate at odds of 1-2, but it was 14-1 longshot Speaktomeoflove who won the 13th running of the seven-furlong event for Louisiana-bred non-winners of a stakes race.
Speaktomeoflove’s victory came in dramatic fashion as the 3-year-old gelding came from just off the pace to get up by a head at the finish line over Jus Lively. Scarlettsblackjack finished another half-length behind the top pair in third.
Under jockey Joe Stokes, Speaktomeoflove got a perfect trip just behind Scarlettsblackjack, who set the fractional times of 23.50 seconds for the opening quarter mile, 47.76 for the half and 1:13.53 for three-quarters. Entering the homestretch Speaktomeoflove engaged Scarlettsblackjack and barely got in front before Jus Lively rallied stoutly and just missed in second. The winner covered the distance in a time of 1:27.25 over a fast track.
The win by Speaktomeoflove was his third straight and fourth from nine outs lifetime. He earned $36,000 for the victory and now has a career bankroll of $107,960.
Speaktomeoflove is a 3-year-old chestnut gelding by Run Away and Hide, out of the Proudest Romeo mare Awesome Truth. He was bred in Louisiana by his owner and trainer Benard Chatters.
