Equine Sales Company Announces 2018 Auction Dates

(December 20, 2017 — Opelousas, Louisiana)  Equine Sales Company is pleased to announce the dates for its three auctions in 2018 to be held in Opelousas, Louisiana.
The 2-year-olds in training sale has been set for Monday, May 7, with the breeze show set for May 6, the day after the Kentucky Derby. The consignor select yearling sale will be held Thursday, September 6, and the open yearling and mixed sale will be Sunday, October 28.
“This will mark our seventh year in operation, so I think we have found the proper placement of these sales that works well for horsemen in Louisiana, the Southwest and around the country,” said Foster Bridewell, sales director. “We had a very strong year in 2017, despite our select sale being impacted by Hurricane Harvey. We are anticipating an even better year in 2018 as we continue with two of the most positive enhancements we have made in recent years with the unified yearling sale in cooperation with the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Equine Sales Oaks and Derby for sale graduates at Evangeline Downs.”

EQUINE SALES COMPANY 2017 OPEN YEARLING & MIXED SALE, Sunday, October 15, 2017

Sale and webcast will begin at 10:00 AM

Equine Sales Company will hold its 2017 Open Yearling and Mixed Sale, Sunday, October 15, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Opelousas, Louisiana.

With supplements to the original catalog, a total of 221 head will be offered. Among the sires represented in the yearling session are Justin Phillip, Lookin at Lucky, Custom for Carlos, Songandaprayer, Half Ours, Guilt Trip and Star Guitar. Many of those same stallions are also represented among the in-foal offerings. The sale will begin with the yearlings followed by the mixed session.

The sale catalog as well as the supplements are  now online, and the auction will be live-streamed at www.equinesalesofla.com. Sale and webcast will begin at 10:00 AM

Large Supplement Added to Equine Sales Company’s Yearling and Mixed Sale

(Opelousas, Louisiana – October 5, 2017) — A supplement of 26 head has been added to the upcoming Equine Sales Company Open Yearling and Mixed Sale. With the additional entries, the total catalogue now comprises a total of 221 offerings.
The sale will be held Sunday, October 15, at 10 a.m. in Opelousas, Louisiana.
“With this supplement we have surpassed the total entries from last year’s sale, so it’s encouraging to see the increased interest from consignors,” said Foster Bridewell, sales director. “And we’ve already had catalogue requests from quite a few new buyers.”

Nearly 200 Head Consigned to Equine Sales’ Open Yearling and Mixed Sale

(Opelousas, Louisiana — September 19, 2017) — A catalogue of 195 head has been released for the Equine Sales Company Open Yearling and Mixed Sale. Approximately 10 late supplements are being added, which will bring the total catalogue to more than 200. The auction will be held Sunday, October 15, at 10 a.m. in Opelousas, Louisiana.
The auction will start with an offering of 73 yearlings followed by a mixed session with 122 head. The mixed session includes 31 weanlings and six 2-year-olds along with broodmares, a stallion and horses of racing age. 
Among the sires represented in the yearling session are Justin Phillip, Lookin at Lucky, Custom for Carlos, Songandaprayer, Half Ours, Guilt Trip and Star Guitar. Many of those same stallions are also represented among the in-foal offerings.
“We had a very good select yearling sale in August, so I think that momentum will continue with this one,” said Sales Director Foster Bridewell. “This catalogue has something for everyone in all price ranges, and we expect to have some new buyers who couldn’t make it to our last sale due to Hurricane Harvey.”

Equine Sales Company Records Across-the-Board Gains in Consignor Select Yearling Sale

Equine Sales Company on Thursday posted gains in every meaningful category in its Consignor Select Yearling Sale in Opelousas, Louisiana. All told, 138 of 193 head sold for a total of $1,636,400 with an average of $11,858 and median of $7,000. That represents a gain of 8.8 percent in sales compared to last year’s total of $1,503,900 with an identical number of horses sold. This year’s average of $11,858 was an increase of 8.8 percent from last year, and the median of $7,000 is 27.3 percent better than last year’s $5,500. The buyback rate this year was 28.5 percent compared to 33.7 percent last year.

“We expected to have a strong sale as our consignors really showcased a excellent selection of yearlings,” said Foster Bridewell, sales director. “But I was even a little surprised how good the numbers were considering the region is still dealing with the aftereffects of Hurricane Harvey.”

The sale-topper was Hip 116, a Louisiana-bred colt by 2003 Horse of the Year Mineshaft out of the stakes-placed Cat Thief mare Noble Bandit. The April 19 foal was consigned by 4M Ranch, agent, and purchased by Louis Roussell III.

Five other horses sold for $50,000 or more with the leading filly being Hip 93, a Louisiana-bred daughter of Violence who sold for $50,000 to O’Brien Bloodstock from Pike Racing, agent.

Equine Sales Consignor Select Yearling Sale Will Be Held Thursday As Scheduled
