It has come the attention of the LTBA that two mares were inadvertently left off of the ballot for Louisiana Broodmare of the Year.
Traditionally only mares with at least two stakes winners in the year are included on the ballot. However, exceptions have been made to include the dams of graded stakes horses.
Flashy Prize is the dam of Free Like A Girl who won multiple stakes races in 2023 and is graded placed. Flashy Prize did not appear on the list for consideration, and was not included on the ballot.
Touch Magic is the dam of Touchuponastar who won multiple stakes races in 2023 and placed in the 2023 G3 Steve Sexton Mile Stakes. Touch Magic did not appear on the list for consideration, and was not included on the ballot.
The LTBA Board of Directors has decided that Flashy Prize and Touch Magic merit consideration for Louisiana Broodmare of the Year. Since many people have already mailed in their ballots, the Board has decided to hold a run-off election following the regular election.
The run-off will be between the Flashy Prize, Touch Magic and the broodmare that gets the most votes on the current ballot, which will be counted February 29th. The LTBA will mail run-off ballots as soon as they can be printed.
