This workshop is the first step in the Certified Instructor process for individuals and organizations that would like to offer Groom Elite Certification course(s) at their venue(s) using local instructors. Groom Elite philosophy and methods will be discussed and criteria for certification will be outlined. The event will also benefit instructors of equine classes at local high schools, community colleges and programs targeting veterans, at-risk youth and similar populations. In addition, anyone teaching equine programs, such as 4-H, local riding instructors and individuals working with therapeutic riding programs will find tools that can help them achieve their objectives.

This Equine Instructor Certification workshop will be an intensive two and one-half days of continuing education discussing principles of horse behavior and horse management as taught in the Groom Elite Master Course Book with emphasis on teaching of those principles. Using the Groom Elite format of lecture and hands-on learning, Dr. McLellan and others will demonstrate methods of teaching horse behavior and how it relates to safe handling, grooming and riding of horses. Participants will see different teaching aids and methods available such as anatomical models and Power Point slide shows to teach underlying principles of equine care and management techniques. Visual aids discussion will include effective utilization of the Groom Elite Power Point library and methods of adapting a Power Point slide show to your specific situation. Horse owners and students interested in learning more about their horses are welcome to attend if space is available. All participants will benefit from the hands-on experience and opportunity to work with equine trainers andinstructors.
