The third quarter of 2016 has shown that Louisiana Breds can compete at top levels all across the country. From July through September, Louisiana Breds showed up on the board in Graded Stakes in Kentucky and New York. Additionally, in stakes with purses above $50,000, Louisiana Breds won at Monmouth Park and Remington Park, as well as placing in stakes at racetracks from New York to California.
Tip Tap Tapizar, a two-year-old Louisiana Bred colt by Tapir out of Counterpoise, a winning Storm Cat mare, ran 3rd in the $100,000 G3 Bashford Manor Stakes on July 2nd at Churchill Downs. The victory came in his 2nd start after breaking his maiden at the same track in June. He followed with a 2nd in the $196,000 G2 Saratoga Special Stakes on August 14th at Saratoga. The Steve Asmussen trainee then earned his first stakes win on September 4th at Monmouth Park as the favorite in the $100,000 Sapling Stakes for owners Whispering Oaks Farm, LLC. Bred in Louisiana by Summer Hill Farm, LLC, the juvenile has earned $133,060 thus far racing across the country.
Chocopologie, who ran 2nd in the 2015 G2 Super Derby, won the $175,000 Governor’s Cup Stakes at Remington Park on September 25th. The three-year-old colt by Candy Ride (Arg) out of Highest Class, a Mineshaft graded placed winning mare, was bred in Louisiana by Coteau Grove Farms, LLC. The Patrick Devereux, Jr. trainee put away his competition crossing the finish line 5 lengths ahead of his nearest competitor.
2016 D.S. Shine Young winner Crosscheck Carlos, ran 2nd in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity at Arapahoe Park on August 14th and followed up with another 2nd in the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile Stakes on September 18th at Los Alamitos Race Course. The bay by Custom For Carlos-Weepnomoremylady, by Summer Squall was bred by Allen Gillette, Jr. and races for owners ERJ Racing, LLC, Slam Dunk Racing and Neil Haymes under the training of Shawn H. Davis.
Believe In Bertie, a three year old filly by Langfuhr out of the Street Cry mare Saint Bertie, ran 2nd in the $200,000 Indiana Grand Stakes at Indiana Downs on September 7th. Earlier in the summer the Richard and Betram Klein homebred won the Louisiana Legends Soiree S.
