LTBA Phones Temporarily Out of Service from 1pm today

AT&T will be installing new fiber optic cable in the LTBA main office in New Orleans beginning at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. While they are working on the lines, the LTBA office phones and computers will be out of service. We hope this will be a quick process and that service will be restored in short order. Louisiana Breds Shine in Stakes Across North America

The third quarter of 2016 has shown that Louisiana Breds can compete at top levels all across the country. From July through September, Louisiana Breds showed up on the board in Graded Stakes in Kentucky and New York.  Additionally, in stakes with purses above $50,000, Louisiana Breds won at Monmouth Park and Remington Park, as well as placing in stakes at racetracks from New York to California.

Tip Tap Tapizar, a two-year-old Louisiana Bred colt by Tapir out of Counterpoise, a winning Storm Cat mare, ran 3rd in the $100,000 G3 Bashford Manor Stakes on July 2nd at Churchill Downs. The victory came in his 2nd start after breaking his maiden at the same track in June. He followed with a 2nd in the $196,000 G2 Saratoga Special Stakes on August 14th at Saratoga. The Steve Asmussen trainee then earned his first stakes win on September 4th at Monmouth Park as the favorite in the $100,000 Sapling Stakes for owners Whispering Oaks Farm, LLC. Bred in Louisiana by Summer Hill Farm, LLC, the juvenile has earned $133,060 thus far racing across the country.

Chocopologie, who ran 2nd in the 2015 G2 Super Derby, won the $175,000 Governor’s Cup Stakes at Remington Park on September 25th. The three-year-old colt by Candy Ride (Arg) out of Highest Class, a Mineshaft graded placed winning mare, was bred in Louisiana by Coteau Grove  Farms, LLC. The Patrick Devereux, Jr. trainee put away his competition crossing the finish line 5 lengths ahead of his nearest competitor.

2016 D.S. Shine Young winner Crosscheck Carlos, ran 2nd in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity at Arapahoe Park on August 14th and followed up with another 2nd in the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile Stakes on September 18th at Los Alamitos Race Course. The bay by Custom For Carlos-Weepnomoremylady, by Summer Squall was bred by Allen Gillette, Jr. and races for owners ERJ Racing, LLC, Slam Dunk Racing and Neil Haymes under the training of Shawn H. Davis.

Believe In Bertie, a three year old filly by Langfuhr out of the Street Cry mare Saint Bertie, ran 2nd in the $200,000 Indiana Grand Stakes at Indiana Downs on September 7th. Earlier in the summer the Richard and Betram Klein homebred won the Louisiana Legends Soiree S.

Also on the board is stakes across the country for the quarter were Jazz Lady (’14 dkbb.f by Mizzen Mast-April Storm, by Storm Cat) who ran 2nd in the $100,000 Bolton Landing S. at Saratoga on August 17th; Ramona’s Wildcat (’12 dkbb.f. by Wildcat Heir-Pretty Indian, by Indian Charlie) who ran 2nd in the $100,000 Open Mind Stakes at Churchill Downs on September 17;  Fancy Madelyn (’11 b.f., by My Friend Max-Fancy Dealer, by Barberstown) who placed third in the $75,000 Brandywine Stakes on July 19 at Indiana Downs; Jack Snipe’s (’14 b.g., by Half Ours-Rhodesia) who ran 2nd in the $75,000 Shakopee Juvenile Stakes on September 17th at Canterbury Park; 2016 Louisiana Legends Mademoiselle Stakes winner Wheatfield (’12 dkbb.f. by Lone Star Special-Thistle Bear) who ran 2nd in the $50,000 Flashy Lady Stakes on September 15th at Remington Park; and Ed Johnson (’13 gr./ro.c., by Paddy O’Prado-Sassy Gal) who ran 2nd in the $50,000 Robert Depret Derby on August 6th at Santa Rosa.

Delta Downs to Offer Nation’s Lowest Takeout Rate During Its 2016-17 Thoroughbred Meet

– A PAIR OF PICK 4 WAGERS WILL BE AVAILABLE EACH RACE NIGHT –

VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs will offer an incredibly low takeout rate of just 12% on its Pick 4 wagers during the upcoming 2016-17 Thoroughbred season which gets underway on October 19. The track will feature an early Pick 4 beginning with the first race every night and a late Pick 4 on the final quartet of races. The Pick 4 is a .50-cent minimum wager.

Delta Downs’ sister racetrack, Evangeline Downs, began offering the 12% Pick 4 takeout rate during its recently completed season and fans responded well to it. Delta Downs winter meet is very popular with simulcast fans across the country and the reduction of takeout from 25% to 12% on its Pick 4 wager is expected to increase pool size while also putting more money in the players’ pockets.

The new season at Delta Downs will featuring live racing every Wednesday through Saturday night with first post time each evening set for 5:40 pm Central Time. The biggest day of the meet will take place on Saturday, November 19, when the track hosts the 14th running of the $1,000,000 Delta Downs Jackpot (Gr. 3). Jackpot Day will feature a guaranteed all stakes $200,000 Pick 4 wagering pool that will also feature the ultra-low takeout rate.

Fair Grounds Announces 2016-17 Stakes Schedule

Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots has announced a comprehensive stakes schedule with 60 stakes worth more than $6.79 million for the 145th Thoroughbred racing season at the New Orleans oval scheduled to kick off on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The stakes schedule will mirror several past seasons with a major focus on big event days, including the meet’s centerpiece, Louisiana Derby Day, which will include eight stakes worth $2.36 million, highlighted by the 104thrunning of the Grade II $1 million Louisiana Derby on April 1. The Grade II $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks, the Grade II $400,000 New Orleans Handicap and the Grade II $300,000 Muniz Memorial will also be run on April 1 along with four additional undercard stakes.

Leading into the Louisiana Derby, Fair Grounds will also host a pair of major stakes days designed as part of The Road to the Kentucky Derby, beginning with Road to the Derby Kickoff Day on Jan. 21. The Grade III $200,000 Lecomte Stakes will be the first race on the Fair Grounds stakes schedule to offer qualifying points for the Grade I Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands. The Grade III $125,000 Colonel E. R. Bradley Stakes and the $150,000 Silverbulletday Stakes will complement the afternoon’s action alongside three other undercard stakes.

Five weeks later on Feb. 25, the track will host Louisiana Derby Preview Day. The day’s highlight will be the Grade II $400,000 Risen Star Stakes that will offer qualifying points toward the Grade I Kentucky Derby and will also include the Grade II $200,000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes, the Grade III $125,000 Mineshaft Handicap and the Grade III $125,000 Fair Grounds Handicap.

Another mainstay on the Fair Grounds Stakes Schedule, Louisiana Champions Day, will be held for the 26th time on Dec. 10. The day will feature 11 stakes races across varying divisions restricted to Louisiana-breds worth a total of $1.1 million.

The open purse minimum climbed from $60,000 to $75,000 this season, and the first three stakes races of the season will be held on Opening Day on Nov. 19, including the $50,000 Mr. Sulu Overnight Stakes, the $50,000 Happy Ticket Overnight Stakes and the $50,000 Heitai Overnight Stakes. The newly created Si Cima Overnight Stakes will be run the following day on Nov. 20 for older fillies and mares traveling one mile and 70 yards on the main track, and all four of the Opening Weekend stakes races are designed as preps for Louisiana Champions Day.
