The Evangeline Training Center in Carencro, La., located on the old Evangeline Downs site, will shut down Aug. 15.

A spokeswoman for the center’s owner, Carrol Castille, told a Layfayette TV station the business has been losing money for several years, and the training center struggled to comply with new standards established by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The facility, which featured an equine pool, hyperbaric chamber and other amenities, opened in 2003. A decade later, the training center began negotiations with the EPA.

Owners have until Aug. 15 to move their horses off the property, which is likely to be sold or re-developed.
