VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted the Louisiana Jewel on Friday night and it was Northpointe Thoroughbreds’ (Vic and Nicole Topper) Sebs Princess who used a patient ride by jockey Diego Saenz to rally for victory in the $100,000 feature. The win marked was the first stakes tally for the Steven Duke trainee.
Sebs Princess settled well off the pace in the seven-furlong Jewel while pacesetter Sarah’s Passion carved out fractions of 23.03 seconds for the opening quarter mile and 47.78 for the half. As the field raced up the backstretch, Saenz called on his mount and she responded with a three-wide rally that put the early leader in her sights at the top of the homestretch.
In the final strides, Sebs Princess was able to collar the leader and pull clear for a 4-3/4 length victory as Film Study also rallied late to grab the place spot. Schiff’s Corner, part of an entry with Sarah’s Passion, was another 1-1/2 length back in third.
Sebs Princess covered the distance of the Louisiana Jewel in a time of 1:29.42 second while running on a fast track.
The record for Sebs Princess now stands at two wins from five career starts. She earned $60,000 for her effort in the Jewel and has now amassed $79,500 in total earnings.
Bred in Louisiana by Adcock’s Red River Farm LLC and J. Adcock, Sebs Princess is a bay filly by Khozan, out of the Yes It’s True mare A True Star.
Sent to the gate at odds of 3-1, Sebs Princess paid $8.80 to win, $4.20 to place and $2.40 to show. Film Study was worth $11 to place and $4.40 to show. Schiff’s Corner returned $2.20 to show.
